The Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is specially designed to stack and lock containers vertically. Due to its precise dimensions, the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 fits the corners of a standard ISO shipping container. From stock, this twist lock is available as left-closing and right-closing versions. The product is made of high-quality galvanised steel, protecting it from weather influences and seawater. The IMPA number is 231811 and the exact dimensions of the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 can be found on the technical drawing.
The Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is specially designed to stack and lock containers vertically. This type of twistlock is used between the corner castings of two containers. The “blunt” side points down, the “point” up. After placing the container on another shipping container, the lever can be turned, causing both points to rotate with it. The twist lock clamps the containers firmly together. The IF-51 Twistlock is suitable for stacking both full and empty shipping containers.
An alternative to this product is the Semi Automatic Twistlock IF-56. The IF-56 locks automatically when placing a container. Turning the lever as with the IF-51 Intermediate Twistlock is not necessary. If a container needs to be secured to the deck, the Dovetail BF-11 twistlock offers a solution. If containers do need to be stacked but locking is unnecessary, the IF-91 Depot Stacker may be a good option. For lateral (horizontal) locking of a container to another shipping container, Bridgefittings offer a solution.
Please note:
Due to the precise dimensions of the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51, it fits any standard corner casting (container corner pieces). As a result, Intermediate Twistlocks can also be used for stacking bulk containers, for example.
Standard ISO container castings are also used for customised constructions. As a result, different constructions can also be safely and securely secured with an Intermediate Twistlock IF-51.
From stock, the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is available as a left-closing and right-closing variant. The lever of the left-closing variant is on the right in the open position. After placing the container on top of another container, the lever is closed to the left. The twist lock is now locked. The same applies to the right-closing variant, which is on the left when open and closes to the right.
In terms of use, it makes no difference whether it is a left- or right-closing twist lock. It depends on personal preference. A (common) consideration may be to close all levers inwards. This means that stacking two containers requires 2 left- and 2 right-closing intermediate twistlocks. Another consideration could be to use only twistlocks with the same closure. For example, when using only left-closing intermediate IF-51 twistlocks, the handle is always on the left when the container is properly locked. An additional advantage with this choice is that the twistlocks are fully interchangeable. Sorting is unnecessary This prevents errors and saves time during loading. which saves time and minimises the risk of errors.
The Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is made of high-quality galvanised steel. This protects the Twistlock from weather and seawater. The protective coating to prevent corrosion ensures that the twistlocks can be used for long periods of time.
When locking the Intermediate twistlock, a greased bearing moves inside the twistlock and is held in place by a spring. This distinctive design choice ensures that the lever must be turned with light force and simply cannot accidentally shoot back. It thus promotes the reliability and safety of using this twistlock.
The exact dimensions of the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 can be found on the technical drawing in .pdf format. A 3D drawing is also available as a .stp file. This allows the IF-51 to be loaded into a technical drawing package for designing customised constructions.
