Biodegradable Security Seals

Navacqs’ Biodegradable Security Seals are eco-friendly seals made from biodegradable plastic. Basically, the seals are made of Polypropylene or Polyethene. During the production of the biodegradable seals, a minimal special composition is added to the base material. This creates an environmentally friendly seal without an effect on the functioning and strength of the seal.

About biodegradable security seals

Navacqs’ Biodegradable Security Seals are eco-friendly seals made from biodegradable plastic. Basically, the seals are made of Polypropylene or Polyethylene. During the production of the biodegradable seals, a minimal special composition is added to the base material. This creates an environmentally friendly seal without any effect on the seal’s performance and strength. With this revolutionary addition, plastic seals can be completely degraded in a natural way within 5 years instead of hundreds of years. The process of degradation starts when the seal ends up in nature. Not when the seals are still in the packaging or in use on a truck or catering trolley, for example. Eco-friendly biodegradable seals will be safe to use at all times.

How are Biodegradable Security Seals produced?

Navacqs’ seals are produced from Polyethylene or Polypropylene. Manufacturers are increasingly using recycled material to reduce environmental impact. Manufacturers are also constantly working to improve seals. By cleverly adapting the design, less material can be used.

When producing a seal, molten Polypropylene or Polyethylene is poured into a specially developed injection mould in the shape of a seal. Once the material has cooled, a seal is created. The seal is then printed with a unique imprint to ensure uniqueness.

The production process of a biodegradable seal is almost identical. Namely, a small amount of material is added to the mixture before the moulds are filled. The added material is specially designed to ensure that the seal becomes biodegradable.

How do seals biodegrade?

Biodegradable products break down naturally into environmentally friendly new raw materials. This is because the special addition during the production process allows micro-organisms to break down the chemical material. However, the environment where the seal is left will have to be rich in micro-organisms for the process to start.

The process of biodegradation starts when the seal comes into contact with environments rich in micro-organisms. An example is a landfill, a compost heap, in water (seas, rivers) or in nature. When the biological seals are still packaged, they will not biodegrade. Similarly, when the seal is in use on a truck or in-flight catering trolley, for example, the seal will not degrade.

Why are biodegradable seals better for the environment?

Products made of plastic are unthinkable today. We can no longer do without plastic. From household appliances and packaging materials to car parts and, of course, seals.

However, plastic products have a huge impact on the environment. This is because the material can hardly be degraded by nature, if at all. This takes many hundreds to thousands of years. With growing awareness that plastic has a major effect on the environment, measures are being taken to minimise plastic use.

Besides minimising plastic use, recycling is an important step. This is because the material can be reused, preventing plastic waste from entering nature. In practice, too much plastic still ends up in nature. To prevent this, Navacqs’ Biodegradable Security Seals are made of biodegradable plastic. When the plastic seals end up in nature, they biodegrade within 5 years.
