The Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 is designed to lock the bottom of a container. This twistlock is similar to the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11, but has a different bottom. The BF-66 can only be placed from above and can be used in four directions. This round bottom twistlock can only be used in combination with the Breech Base Deck Socket DF-66, or a recess in the deck of a ship. The BF-66 Breech Base twistlock is available in a left-closing and a right-closing variant. Each product is made of high-quality galvanized steel and is therefore suitable for years of use. The exact dimensions of the Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 can be found on the technical drawing.
The Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 has been specially developed to secure and lock a container from the bottom. Turning the lever of the BF-66 provides the lock. Thanks to the well-thought-out design, the lock cannot come loose due to vibration or weather influences, for example.
The Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 is just like the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 suitable for securing and locking containers at the bottom. However, the BF-66 twistlock differs from the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 in two respects:
The Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 can only be used in combination with the Breech Base Deck Socket DF-66. This twistlock is placed in the corresponding deck socket (not included, to be ordered separately). In addition, the DF-66 can be used on an (inland) ship, where breech base recesses are present in the deck.
The accompanying Breech Base Deck Socket DF-66 can also be used in combination with the Breech Base Lashing eye (D-Ring) LP-21. This makes it possible to switch quickly between transporting containers and temporarily placing an extra lashing eye to secure cargo on the deck.
The BF-66 Breech Base twistlock is available in a left-blocking and a right-blocking variant. The lever of the left-closing twistlock is in a neutral position on the right. By turning the handle to the left by hand, the point on the top of the twistlock also rotates. The locking takes place inside the corner of the container, the corner casting. The right-closing variant works the same, only the position of the lever is mirrored to the left-closing BF-66. The handle is on the left and is manually turned to the right to secure a container.
In terms of use, the left and right versions are identical. It depends on the preference of which choice is made. Common is the use of 2 left-blocking and two right-blocking twistlocks in one container. In this case, all levers are inward when the twistlocks are properly locked. Another consideration is to choose one type of twistlock, for example, all left-blocking. The advantage of this is that all levers point in the same direction when closed. It usually works faster and the chance of errors is smaller. After all, it is not possible to accidentally swap left and right-blocking twistlocks while placing them on the deck.
The Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 is made of high-quality galvanized plastic rd steel. This protects the Twistlock against weather influences and seawater. By protecting against corrosion, the twistlocks can be used for years.
When locking the Breech Base Twistlock, a greased bearing moves inside the twist lock that is held in place with a spring. This distinctive design choice means that the lever must be turned with light force and simply cannot accidentally snap back. It thus improves the reliability and safety of the use of this twistlock.
