Product description Dovetail Twistlock BF-11

The Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 is designed to lock a container from the bottom. To make this twistlock removable, it can be combined with the matching DF-31 deck socket. The BF-11 Dovetail twistlock is available in a left and a right-blocking version. The product is made of high-quality galvanized steel and is therefore protected against weather influences and seawater. The exact dimensions of the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 can be found on the technical drawing.

Suitable for locking the bottom of the container to the construction

The Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 is specially designed to secure the container from the bottom. A dovetail twistlock is placed on the four corners of a container. After placing the container, locking is easy: by turning the handle, the twistlock ensures that the sea container, bulk container, or self-designed construction remains firmly anchored in place.

Difference from Breech Base twistlock

The Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 is an alternative to the BF-11 twistlock. Both are used at the bottom of a bulk container, (reefer) container or your construction. The difference is in the mounting with the bottom plate. The BF-11 in combination with the Deck Socket DF-31 is usually easier and faster to work with, while the Breech Base Deck Socket DF-66 in combination with the Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 can be placed in four directions. In addition, the deck of an (inland waterway) vessel may be equipped with sunken breech base recesses to place the twist lock. However, the DF-31 deck socket in combination with the BF-11 Dovetail Twistlock is used more often because of its simplicity in use and is also a more cost-effective solution.

The angle of 55 degrees is available on request

The Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 is supplied with an angle of 45 degrees as standard. It is also possible to supply the Dovetail Twistlock with an angle of 55 degrees, including a matching deck socket. To do so, please contact us at +31 (0) 10-495 0000 or sales@navacqs.com.

Available with matching Deck Socket DF-31

To make the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 dismountable, these twistlocks can be combined with the matching Deck Socket DF-31. When a container is loaded on deck or other construction, the twistlocks come in handy. When transporting other cargo, the twistlocks could get in the way.

The Dovetail Twistlock is then simply slid out of the bottom plate and quickly removed. The Deck Socket DF-31 is welded to the deck but is only a few centimetres high. This means that it does not form an obstacle to the transport of other cargo. Vehicles such as forklift trucks and reach trucks also drive over the bottom plate without hindrance. When the load again consists of sea containers during a subsequent transport, the BF-11 is again mounted in the bottom plate with a simple sliding motion. Charging can start within minutes.

Welding advice when used without a deck socket

When disassembling the twistlock is not necessary, the BF-11 is welded directly to the construction. When welding it is important that the zinc layer is first ground away. The advice is to bring the steel to a temperature of 300° C before welding.

Available in both left and right-blocking versions

The BF-11 Dovetail Twistlock is available in a left-blocking and right-blocking versions. The handle of the left-blocking twistlock is in neutral position on the right side. By turning the lever to the left by hand, the point at the top of the twistlock also turns. The locking takes place inside the corner point of the container, the corner casting. The right-blocking variant works the same, only the position of the handle is mirrored to the left-blocking BF-11. The handle is on the left side and is manually switched to the right side to secure the container.

In terms of use, the left and right variants are identical. It depends on preference which choice is made. Common is the use of 2 left-blocking and two right-blocking twistlocks for one container. In this case, all levers are inward when the twistlocks are properly engaged. Another consideration is to choose one type of twistlock, for example, all left-blocking. The advantage of this is that all handles point in the same direction when closed. Another rationale for this last option is that it is less prone to error (and works faster). After all, it is not possible to accidentally switch left and right-blocking twist locks while placing them on the deck.

Galvanized steel for years of use

The Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 is made of high-quality galvanized steel. This protects the product against weather influences and seawater. This prevents corrosion and the twistlocks can be used for a long period of time.

Reliable locking

When locking the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11, a greased bearing moves inside the twistlock and is held in place with a spring. This distinctive design choice ensures that the lever must be turned with light force and simply cannot accidentally snap back. This design choice promotes the reliability and safety of using this twistlock.

Technical drawing available

The exact dimensions of the Dovetail Twistlock BF-11 can be found on the technical drawing in .pdf format. There is also a 3D drawing available as a .stp file. This allows the BF-11 to be loaded into a technical drawing package for the design of custom constructions.
